Tile & Grout Cleaner

First of all, I want to give a shout out to the genius who thought any light colored grout was ever a good idea. The sad thing is I didn't even know my grout wasn't black until I really got down and scrubbed it. Of all the things I enjoy doing, cleaning is nowhere to be found on that list. Unfortunately, my floors were looking  a little sad and needed a good deep clean. 

It was surprisingly easier than I thought, and my awesome homemade cleaner left my house fume free. All you need is baking soda, vinegar, any citrus essential oil and some muscle.

Here is the lovely "before" shot. It's incredibly disgusting.

Because my floors were especially dirty I sprinkled baking soda all over the grout. I then made a mixture of water, 1/2 cup vinegar and 10 drops of lemon essential oil and sprayed it right onto the baking soda with a spray bottle. I noticed the longer I let it sit the easier it was to clean. I then got down and scrubbed the gross floors with a scrub brush. If you feel like there is a little film of baking soda left behind you can just wipe the floors with a damp towel to get rid of it.

And voila, squeaky clean floors! They were so pretty, too bad I have a herd of children and they only stayed pretty for a short while. The awesome thing about it was that my home didn't smell like chemicals after I was done, it just smelled like the lemon oil I used!

If you clean more often than I do and your floors don't need a deep scrub then just use this recipe:

1/2 cup vinegar

1 TBS baking soda

10 drops lemon essential oil (any citrus one will work great)

Pour into a bucket with warm water and mop away!
