Depression

I have never been a big fan of anti-depressant medication. About 10 years ago I was prescribed the medicine and did not do well; it acutally made the depression worse and I ended up in the hospital. I went off the medication feeling like that was not the answer for me. I started researching about anti-depressants and found some scary stuff about their side effects.

* Antidepressants can cause serious side effects including risk of suicide
* Antidepressants can increase symptoms of anxiety & depression in some cases
* Antidepressants are completely ineffective in up to 50% of cases
* Antidepressants can be as addictive as narcotics
* Antidepressants frequently cause serious withdrawal symptoms upon discontinuation

According to the FDA "Several recent scientific publications suggest the possibility of an increased risk for suicidal behavior in adults who are being treated with antidepressant medications." This concern lead the FDA to mandate black box warning labels on all antidepressant drugs disclosing the increased risks of suicidal thinking and behavior, known as suicidality.

Scary stuff, so what do you do? We start by dividing your mood up into four catergories they are: 1. Angry and impatient, 2.Unmotivated and discouraged, 3. Hopeless and withdrawn 4. Tense and worried. You could also use the words, fatigued, no passion, stressed and no peace. The four oils that go with these are 1. Serenity*, 2. Citrus Bliss*, 3. Elevation* and 4. Balance*. These four oils are AMAZING!!

I used to drop them one by one on my wrist then rub them on my temples and chest, but with 5 kids running around sometimes I have to be quick so I put the oils into a spray pump and spray it on my feet in the morning. If I am feeling especially low I will take the time to put them on one by one.

I have a dear friend who lost her father a little bit ago. As you can imagine she was very upset and was feeling very depressed. She was able to get through this very tough and emotional time with using those oils.

I have seen this work for a lot of people with depression and they were able to make it through a tough times without having to turn to medication, drugs or alcohol.

*Serenity is a blend that promotes calming, composing and placating.

* Citrus Bliss is a blend that is invigorating, stimulating and motivating.

* Elevation promotes feelings of inspiring, encouraging and cheering.

* Balance (one of my favorites) is grounding, reassuring and consoling.

  2. Hi Megan!

I have a couple questions if you don't mind. How do I make this myself. Do I use straight oil or do I dilute it with a carrier oil? How much of each do I use? I am wanting to get off some anxiety meds and wanting to try something natural. Also, I was reading your post on Rosemary for hair growth- could I just add a drop of it to my hair while I am shampooing it? Thanks so much! I love your blog!

    1. Hi Tara, I don't dilute any of these oil because none of them irritate my skin. If you are just applying them directly I would use 2-3 drops per oil.

As far as the Rosemary I would only put it in your shampoo if it is an all natural one. If it isn't I would just put it on after you get out of the shower. You can put 1-2 drops onto your wet hair and rub it in, or put it in a spray bottle and spritz your hair after you shower.

I hope that helps, good luck and let me know if you have any questions!
