Bad School Days

I was talking to a friend who just started homeschooling a few months ago. She laughed saying that yesterday was a bad day, so bad that she snuck away to her closet to eat some chocolate.

I think it is safe to say that every homeschool mom, or mom in general, has had a rough day and has wanted to sneak away for a few minutes. Luckily, these days become fewer and more far between with each year we homeschool.

I thought I would give some tips from the school of The Hippie Mama to help with these days.

Tip #1-RELAX!! This will always be tip #1, whether I am talking about school, food, exercise, finances, or whatever is going in your life. Take a big breath, and relax.

Tip #2- Be flexible. I don't mean do the splits, although I am sure that it would be entertaining :). No, be flexible with your schedule. If your child is crying over a subject, stop what you're doing and move on to something different. Don't get hung up on what you think they should be learning; enjoy the journey of learning, don't make it about just enduring the journey.

Tip #3- Have fun. If the school day is looking like it is going to be craptacular, then mix things up and have some fun. Play a game, go for a walk, play outside or whatever you want, just do something different, then go crazy.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. So if you are having a lot of bad days, you need to do something different and then you will have different results.

And when all else fails always remember, come what may and love it!!
